Guest Blogger: A Molly of All Trades

Hello fans of Confessions of a Stay at Home Mommy! I am so excited to meet you all and I hope that you enjoy my tutorial! This project is updated from the very first tutorial I posted on my blog about a year ago. I have learned so much in the last year and decided to update the tutorial and add a little bit to it!

Here is what you need:

Stretched canvas — I used two 12x12 canvases and one 12x24 canvas.
Cotton fabric — 1/2-yard of each
Staple gun
Hot glue
Buttons

And off we go!

The first step is to cut out the fabric so that you have about 3 inches on each side, enough to wrap around the edges. {BTW, I chose to use canvases because they are light-weight and easier to hang, but if you have plywood that totally works as well!}

Once that's done, fold up one edge (I find it easiest to start with the two long sides) and use the staple gun to affix the fabric to the canvas. Make sure that you are stapling it to the wooden frame — especially if there is a lip in the wood. It's best if you do both long sides first, then when you do the third and fourth side make sure and stretch the fabric so that there aren't any wrinkles or folds on the front. Fold in the corners and reinforce them with a couple extra staples.

Once that is done, you are free to stop and enjoy your beautiful and cheap wall decor! But I wanted to embellish a little bit more to pull out the colors in my bedspread.

I took a bunch of buttons of different shades and sizes. I tried out a bunch of different designs but I finally settled on a starburst. I affixed the buttons to the canvas with hot glue.

Finally, hang the wall decor in the way that best fits your circumstances — when I was living in a rental where I wasn't supposed to put holes in the wall, I used poster hangers from target (which worked because the canvases are so light).

And voila!

It took less than 30 minutes to make all three pieces and the best part is that when you are redecorating, just rip off the fabric and re-do it! Please visit my blog {adetailorientedlife.com} and give me a follow for plenty more cheap and easy tutorials!

  3. To make the process easier, define a point of contact for each room in your new home to help with your plans and make sure to make a note or electrical outlets as well. Also, don't forget to keep your photos as they may be useful when you need to get quotes from operators before they transfer you.
