Like the rest of the country I am stunned and saddened by the horrible shooting in Colorado. My first response to hearing of the shooting was to grab my children and hug them tightly. It is times like this that make you realize just how precious loved ones are, and just how important it is to be a loving parent and guide your children in the right direction.
Being a parent means you are raising the future -both the good and the bad. I hope we can all take the time to tell our children how much they mean to us and help teach them wrong from right, as well as fiction from reality. For those of you with children old enough to understand what happened, or even those of you who are just dumbfounded by this tragedy, I leave you with this quote from the always-wise Mr. Rogers:
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” ― Fred Rogers.
Let's all find time today to look for the helpers. Even more than that, let's all find time to BE the helpers.
