Perry the Platypus Snack Container

Do I have any Phineas and Ferb fans out there? Our family LOVES Phineas and Ferb. In fact, I think my husband and I may enjoy it more than the kids. The most popular character in our house is Perry the Platypus. Who doesn't love a semi-aquatic mammal in a fedora?? Here is one of what I am sure will be many Phineas and Ferb-themed crafts to come from the Moon household.

Materials needed:
Baby puffed rice snack container or Pringles container
2 sheets of teal felt
1 sheet of orange felt or orange craft foam
1 sheet of brown felt
2 white buttons
2 smaller black buttons
1 brown pipe cleaner: optional
hot glue

Trace the lid of the snack container onto the teal felt. Cut out the circle. cut out a strip of felt to go around the edge of the lid as well. Glue the felt to the lid.

For the feet, tail, bill, and hat go to the Disney website and print out the template for their felt Perry the Platypus. Add 1/4 inch around all the pieces you cut out. You don't have to use the template, but I found it easier than trying to make my own.

Glue a piece of pipe cleaner to the bottoms of the brims of Perry's hat.

With the pipe cleaner on the inside glue the top and sides of the hat together, leaving the bottom open. You can adjust the hat to the width you want before gluing the bottom of the hat to the top of the lid.

Wrap your teal felt all the way around the body of the container and glue in place. You may need to trim the bottom of the felt if it is longer than the container.

For the feet, I chose to use orange craft foam. I cut them out larger than the template and glued them to the bottom of the container.

For the tail, glue both pieces of felt or foam together and draw criss-cross pattern in brown marker. Glue the tail to the bottom of the container.

Glue the tips of the bill together and glue the bill where you want Perry's face to be.

Finally, glue the smaller black buttons to the middle of the larger white buttons for the eyes and glue them about the bill.

With Agent P guarding your snacks they won't stand a chance against the mildly-evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

Happy Crafting!

  2. It is RIDICULOUS how much we enjoy P&F!! And there's another great blogger--her site name is "Plucky Momo"! I was very disappointed when we went school shopping for my son that there wasn't any Candace or Isabella stuff in the girls' dep't :(

On a funny note, my son, age 5, will now provide his own "background music" as he leaves the room (a la Candace's da da ta da) without knowing that he's doing it. He just thinks that's what you do when you leave a room :)

"It got up, and it DANCED away" is our family motto.

  5. Oh my daughter is going to freak...she loves Perry. I just bought her a talking Perry, and an "I Heart Platypi" t-shirt for her birthday. She is going to love making this for snacks or maybe for markers in the car.

  7. Love it! We are HUGE Phineas and Ferb fans, like you, I think my husband and I like it even more than the kids. My mom keeps Phineas and Ferb fruit snacks on hand for my boys and my 2 1/2 year old insists every single one of them is Perry. I can't wait to do this for my boys. Too bad I don't have any pringles cans...guess I'll just have to go buy and eat some ;).
