Summer Fun Wreath

I can't believe how quickly the last year has flown by. This weekend is Memorial Day and my sweet little Samantha has less than two weeks left of Kindergarten. With Summer quickly approaching I decided to make a summer fun wreath to get into the spirit of things.

Candlestick Pincushions

What do you get when you cross Sudafed with a hot glue gun? The wacky idea to turn candlesticks into pincushions!

I have been battling a nasty head cold this week, but after a big ole' dose of cold medicine cocktail, I was feeling well enough to get my craft on.

I have had a couple of dollar store candlesticks sitting on my craft cupboard since Valentine's day. I occasionally drop a loose button into the top of one, but for the most part they have become dust collectors. The other day I had a few straight pins lying around just waiting to roll onto the floor and stab someone. I dropped them into the top of the candlestick and the idea for my candlestick pincushions was born. 

Materials:

candlesticks

scrap fabric

a handful of stuffing--the polyester kind, not the kind you stuff in the turkey. :P

hot glue gun and glue

tiny rubber band

Cut your fabric into a circle. Mine was around 9 inches.

Wrap the fabric around the stuffing and tie off the end with a rubber band.

Make sure you have your cushion the shape/size you want and cut off the excess fabric.

Hot glue the inside rim of the candlestick and carefully place the cushion into the stick.

Fluff and squish and add your pins.

Voila! In less than 10 minutes you have a new pincusion (or two).

Recycled Halloween Crayons

Halloween is quickly approaching and I have the honor of being in charge of the Halloween party for my daughter's kindergarten class. For party favors I decided to make spooky crayons using my Halloween cookie mold.

I used my 40% off coupon at Michael's and got this for 6 bucks!!

Arrange the never-ending supply of broken crayons.

Bake in the oven at 250 for 5 to 7 minutes. Keep an eye on them! Once the crayons have flattened remove them immediately.

Place them in the fridge or freezer to cool and pop them out of the mold.

Aren't these cute?? I am planning to wrap them in orange and black tulle for the party. I can't wait!

Cars 2 Mod Podge Charms

Cars 2 comes out on June 24th and I have 2 very excited kiddles. We found Cars 2 cereal at Target the other day and even though it is just Cheerios with red food coloring my son wanted to eat it for every meal. I was about to throw the box in the recycling pile when I realized that it was covered with the Cars 2 logo. Out came the scissors and the Mod Podge and within a few minutes I had made fun little Cars charms for my 2 oldest munchkins. Here is how easy it is to make them:

Materials needed:

Cars 2 cereal--found at Target

Mod Podge

Craft foam (optional)

necklace bails (optional)

Cut out the Cars 2 logos from the cereal box and glue them to a piece of craft foam if desired.

Using an Exacto knife cut around the logo so the foam isn't showing.

Brush Mod Podge over the logo and let it dry. Apply a second coat and let that dry.

Poke a hole through the top of the charm and insert a bail if you have one.

I let the kids bead a strand of hemp and put the charm in the middle.

Voila! A cool necklace that the kids can wear to the movies.
