No Sew Owl Tote

Like everyone else on the planet I am on board the owl train. I've always loved owls. I especially love them now because we call my son Phillip the screech owl. If you've ever heard him tantrum you understand. :)

I recently saw an owl tote at Target and decided to make my own using some scrap fabric and a denim tote. My sewing machine is being a brat, so I did this the no-sew way.

Rosette Tutorial

Materials needed:
Fabric strips
Hot glue gun/ hot glue 


To make the fabric rosettes:Cut 1.5 inch wide strips of fabric and tie off the ends.

Twist the fabric and wrap it into a spiral shape. To make turning the spiral easier you can set the fabric on a piece of felt or just turn it on a smooth surface like a table. Add a dot of hot glue or fabric glue to the edge every half inch or so to secure the spiral.

Once you reach the other tied off end, glue it to the back of the rosette.
To make the leaves cut a circle of green felt into quarters. Glue a piece of felt to the back of the flower so the end it sticking out.

The fabric rosettes give this wreath a country feel while welcoming the warmer days to come.

Materials needed:
wreath form
strips of fabric
green felt
hot glue gun
hot glue
fabric glue (optional)

To make the fabric rosettes:

I used 4 rosettes for this wreath to keep it simple, but you can use as many as you want.

Wrap your wreath form with 3 inch wide strips of fabric. I needed 2 strips to cover the entire wreath form. Hot glue the strips in place once you have wrapped it.

Make sure the fabric covers the entire form

Apply the rosettes with hot glue and add desired embellishments.

The finished product

Tip: Use patterned fabric to give the rosettes extra detail.











This entire project took around one and a half episodes of Lost, minus the commercials. :)
