Pin Wheel Wreath Revisited

I posted how to make a pinwheel wreath last summer and it got a great response, so I decided to post it again for my newer followers. This is still one of my favorite wreaths. I hope you enjoy it!

Corner Reading Nook

For those of you who don't know, I live in a shoebox, A.K.A. a two bedroom apartment with 3 kids, two adults, and a dog. There isn't much space for the kids to have quiet time on their own, so one day I made them a makeshift hideaway in the corner of their bedroom.

Don't you just love the dresser with the missing drawer? Oh yeah.

They loved it, but it just wasn't what they needed. By that I mean it wasn't good enough for me.

The first thing I did was replace the dresser with one that had all the drawers. What a concept! I didn't like the dresser where it was, so I swapped it with the bookcase and that is how this cozy corner went from a hideaway to a book nook.

The next thing I did was sew a little curtain. I hung it by attaching a hook to the bunk bed and another to the walls. I ran twine across and hung the curtain.

I printed and laminated some reading posters and threw in a few chairs.

The kids absolutely love their reading nook, and it makes them feel like they have a bit more space.

Fabric Message Board/Panel Screen

Thanks to my dear hubby I now have an organized craft space. Unfortunately, there is no place for my wonderful little MAC. I have one in my bedroom, but if I leave the kiddles unsupervised for more than 30 seconds the house may implode. I have been using my kitchen table as an impromptu desk, but that just looks tacky. The least invasive space is the kitchen counter and thanks to my newest creation, this is a livable compromise.

Materials needed:

Cardboard--mine is 16 by 24

fabric of your choice

a spool of ribbon

spray adhesive or hot glue

cute thumb tacks

I made this as a screen to cover my computer space, so I folded in the edges of the cardboard so there were 3 panels.

Cover the cardboard with fabric. The front of mine is nice and smooth and the back is where the edges of the fabric are glued. It isn't pretty on the back, but you can glue a piece of fabric over the mess when you are finished.

Hot glue ribbon in a criss-cross pattern across the front. I looked at a picture of a message board from an online store and laid my ribbon the same way.

Place your thumb tacks over the crossed areas.

Hang your message board on the wall or stand it up on a counter.

Message ON a Bottle

Right now I am obsessed with two things: Burlap and chalkboard paint. Hmmm....I think I may have my next project...

These bottles were insanely easy and I love the way they look.

Materials needed:

Glass jugs--mine are half gallon beer jugs

Chalkboard paint

Colored chalk

Clean and dry the glass bottle(s).

 Cover your work area and cover with a coat of chalkboard paint. Let it completely dry and rub chalk all over. Wipe it away and apply at least one more coat. My bottles had writing on them, so I needed 3 coats. 

Rub chalk over the last coat and wipe it away.

Your message bottle is ready to go. This can be used to leave notes, make festive holiday decor, and even write the night's dinner menu on.

Burlap Covered Storage Boxes

I see cute little storage boxes in the store all the time, but I think of all the hot glue I could buy with the money I would spend on those and I turn the other way. It's a good thing, too, because I used a lot of hot glue to make these. :)

Materials needed:

Cardboard boxes (I used 12" x 12" x 10.5")

Burlap--If you are using the same size box as I am you will need a 50 inch cut of fabric. This will make 2 boxes.

Ribbon

Plenty of hot glue sticks for your trusty hot glue gun

Have a vacuum handy because there will be little burlap stringies EVERYWHERE!

If your box has flaps, cut them off.

Wrap the burlap around your box, hot gluing one panel at a time. Leave around 2 inches at the top and 2 inches at the bottom.

Glue the burlap to the bottom of box. I did this the way I would wrap a present.

Fold the burlap over the top edge of the box and glue it to the inside.

Oops!
Thank goodness for ribbon!

Hot glue ribbon to the inside of the box to cover the burlap edges.

Add ribbon and/or desired embellishments to the outside of your box.

To make this embellishment just wrap jute around a
cardboard circle and hot glue your paper to the back.

I'm using mine to store my never ending supply of crafting goodies, but I'm planning on making more to store diapers and wipes.

I just finished these to replace the broken
drawers in my entertainment center.
